Photo-Stimulated Luminescence Approach for Effective Identification of Irradiated Fruit

This work reports the results of a study carried out to verify applicability CEN EN 13751 method, based on photo-stimulated luminescence (PSL) technique, for identification irradiated fruit. A total 15 types fresh and dried fruit not (0.5 1 kGy) were tested. Preliminary tests performed samples kiwis, lemons, mangoes, oranges, papayas, pineapples tangerines, dates, prunes raisins. Successively, an inter-comparative test was organized, whereby four Italian official control laboratories analyzed eight matrices, namely, kiwi, orange, fig, raisin, hazelnut, peanut, pistachio walnut. The indicated considerable differences in radiation PSL sensitivities different as well among responses obtained from batches same best with some fruit, pistachios, peanuts, figs Irradiated generally gave non-positive results, mainly intermediate even very close negative threshold. Tests mango orange that parts peel stem, which are more wrinkled, provide better results.
